โœฆ How it works โœฆ

From your story to a collector's cover.

1 Step 1

Book dimensions

To begin, we'll need the exact dimensions of your book โ€” and whether it's a paperback or hardcover. Because fitted covers are custom-built around the exact size and structure of the book, the format must be finalized before production begins.

  • Width, height & spine thickness
  • Paperback or hardcover format

Cover design development

If you already have artwork that can be converted into an engravable SVG, we can work from that. If not, we'll collaborate on a custom engrave-friendly design โ€” and we typically create multiple concepts for you to review before production.

  • The themes and symbolism of your story
  • Overall tone and aesthetic
  • Your existing cover art or branding

3 Step 3

Material selection

Next, choose the materials for your campaign cover so the final product fully matches the aesthetic of your book and Kickstarter branding.

  • Wood type
  • Leather color / style
  • Hardware finish

Campaign renderings

Once the design and materials are finalized, we create high-quality renderings of the cover โ€” similar to the visuals in our customizer โ€” ready to power your launch.

  • Kickstarter campaign pages
  • Social media & pre-launch marketing
  • Email campaigns & ad creatives

Program FAQ

Questions authors ask

Will Heirloom Bookery sell my cover design after my campaign ends?

No. Your cover design remains exclusive to your campaign unless you specifically request that we continue offering it afterward.

What happens if my Kickstarter campaign is not funded?

No worries at all. If your campaign is not funded, nothing is owed to the Heirloom Bookery team.

What is the average price of a fitted cover?

Pricing varies depending on the materials and style selections chosen for the campaign. Before any volume discounts, most fitted covers typically retail between $175โ€“$200 USD.

When do I officially place my cover order?

Once your Kickstarter campaign is successfully funded and you receive the funds, you'll submit your final order list to Heirloom Bookery. For each customer we'll need:

  • First & last name
  • Phone number
  • Shipping address
  • Optional inside flap personalization (up to 20 characters)
What are the production lead times?

Kickstarter orders typically have lead times about 2 weeks longer than our standard turnaround, since we often need to source additional wood and leather in your selected styles specifically for your campaign.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

No minimum order quantity is required. However, once campaigns exceed 10 cover orders, authors receive discounted production pricing at 25% of the retail value per cover.

Do I need permission from my publisher or agent?

If your book is traditionally published, represented by an agent, or under a publishing contract, you are responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions or approvals before working with Heirloom Bookery.

Is Heirloom Bookery responsible for copyright or contract issues?

No. By moving forward with a project, the author confirms they have the legal authority to commission and sell the designs associated with their campaign. Heirloom Bookery is not responsible for any copyright, licensing, publishing contract, or other legal disputes related to the project.
